WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The United States will supply advanced rocket systems for Ukraine in defense of Russian forces. However, they won’t be used to strike inside Russia. This was a White House official who said Wednesday that Washington is trying to limit the conflict.

The U.S. President Joe Biden announced that he will provide Ukraine with missile systems that are capable of hitting long-range Russian targets with pinpoint accuracy as part a $700million weapons package. This deal is expected to be released on Wednesday.

Jonathan Finer is the White House’s deputy national security adviser. He said that Ukraine has been making requests for this system and Washington feels it will satisfy their needs.

We have requested assurances from the Ukrainians that these systems will not be used to strike in Russia. These are defensive conflicts that the Ukrainians have been engaged in. Finer told CNN that Russian forces have been on their soil.

Finer stated that there are important targets Ukraine cannot reach using the current weapons. The rocket system can make a significant difference in conflict in the southeast of the country where Russian forces currently focus.

On Tuesday, a senior official in the administration said that Ukraine had given assurances that they would not use long-range missiles against Russia.

Officials said that the package contained ammunition and counter-fire radars as well as a variety of air surveillance radars.

In the hope of changing the tide of the conflict, Ukrainian officials are asking for long-rangemissile system that can launch rockets from hundreds of miles away.

Russian officials said that Moscow considered the situation “extremely negative.” Finer said that Biden told Russian President Vladimir Putin direct what the implications of an invasion by Ukraine was.

He stated that “We do exactly what we have promised,” Russia caused it by initiating an invasion into a sovereign state from its territory.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2018, thousands have been killed and many more were displaced.

Washington and Washington have held talks with Kyiv regarding the possibility of escalation if Russia strikes deep within Russia as the United States and its allies continue to provide Ukraine with sophisticated weapons, U.S. diplomats told Reuters.

U.S. intelligence also warns of growing dangers.

Biden stated Tuesday to reporters, “We’re not going send to Ukraine rocket system that strikes into Russia.”
