India’s ruling party suspends official over comments about Islam -Breaking

REUTERS/Ritesh ShklaMUMBAI, Reuters – India’s Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) said on Sunday that it suspended Nupur Sharma (BJP spokeswoman) for making comments during a television debate regarding the Prophet Mohammed.
In a statement posted on its website, the BJP stated that it respected all religions. The BJP denounces any insult to religious figures of any religion.
Sharma stated on Twitter (NYSE 🙂 that she was responding to some comments about a Hindu God, but not to offend anyone’s religious sentiments.
“If any of my statements have caused distress or hurt religious feelings, I will unconditionally withhold my statement.”
Naveen Jindal (another BJP spokesman) was expelled by the party for comments he made on Islam and social media.
Jindal stated on Twitter that he had asked questions about comments against Hindu gods. “I only questioned their beliefs, but this does not make me a skeptic of any religion.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party strongly opposes any ideology that insults or degrades any religion or sect. “The BJP doesn’t promote such people” the BJP statement stated.
Sharma’s remarks have been criticized by several Muslim nations, such as Qatar and Kuwait.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar stated that it summoned Indian Ambassador over the remarks.
Kuwait summoned Indian Ambassador and stated it had also given a protest note to the Indian diplomat. Kuwait denied and decried the statements of the BJP official.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry statement said that while it was pleased with the decision by (BJP) to suspend the official from its ranks, Qatar demanded an apology and condemnation immediately.
