The first Atlantic hurricane season named storm, Tropical Storm Alex, was stronger as it made its way toward Bermuda. It had rained on some parts of Florida on Saturday, flooding many roads.

Alex was able to reach tropical storm force early Sunday after he strengthened off Florida’s East Coast.

National Hurricane Center forecasters stated that Alex’s sustained winds were now at 60 mph (95 km/h), and it was located approximately 550 miles (890km) west of Bermuda.

It moved east-northeast at an incredibly fast 23 mph (37 km/h). On Monday, it was forecast to move near Bermuda. There was a tropical storm alert in place. It could rain anywhere from 2 to 3 inches (50-75 mm) across Bermuda on Sunday night and Monday morning, according to forecasters.

Some parts of South Florida were affected by road flooding Saturday due to heavy rains and strong winds. Miami officials warned motorists about the road condition as many vehicles were stuck in flooded roads.

This is dangerous and can be life-threatening. It is dangerous to travel in these circumstances. Better to be patient. “Don’t drown, turn around,” Miami City Council tweeted.

It was helping tow stranded cars from the floodwaters.

Dan Gelber, Miami Beach mayor said that the storm testified to the drainage pumps installed by the city in response to climate change’s increasing threat of flooding.

Gelber stated that while the water was removed quickly in many areas it proved difficult to do so elsewhere. Although there were difficulties getting to some streets and one main arterial was not passable, water is slowly dissipating.”

Alex was partially rescued from Hurricane remnants Agatha, which Mexico’s Pacific Coast was rocked by a massive tsunami last week. At least 9 people were killed and five more are missing.

According to officials, three Cubans were killed by the hurricane, which also damaged many homes in Havana, and shut off some electricity supplies. The heavy rain continued on Saturday but it was decreasing as the weather system left the island.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially began Tuesday. It is an unusually early start of the storm season for Florida, but it is not uncommon.
