Apple new MacBook Air photos and details

AppleOn Monday, Apple unveiled a new MacBook Air version at its annual conference for developers. WWDC.

Apple’s best-selling laptop is the MacBook Air. The new design should help boost Mac sales over the next quarter. In recent years, the Mac product line has been growing strongly — shipments grew about 28% in 2021 versus just under 15% for the entire market, according to a Canalys estimate.

Apple’s Mac product line saw an overall increase in sales. This is due to people buying laptops to work from home or to go to school, and also because Apple switched to using its own chips. It has greatly increased its battery life.

While the new MacBook Air weighs in at just 2.7 pounds and is still thin, it has a sleek new design that features consistent thickness instead of its tapering wedge-shaped predecessor.

Apple’s M2 Chip, announced Monday by Apple, is the core of this device. It will operate faster and use less power than Apple’s old chip. Two USB-C Thunderbolt ports are available for connecting monitors or peripherals to the device, as well as a headphone socket and MagSafe magnetic connector that can be used for charging.

Although the screen is slightly larger, the 13.6 inch screen now features a cutout for the camera. This cutout looks similar to the one around iPhone’s front-facing camera. Videoconferencing cameras have been updated with better resolution and color.

The new model also comes in four colors — Apple’s traditional silver, grey, and gold alongside a new matte black color Apple is calling “Midnight.”

New MacBook Air starts at $1,199, compared to $999 last year, but is still on sale. You can get the most powerful version for $2,499.

A 13-inch MacBook Pro of the same size was also announced by Apple. It wasn’t available for review Monday. Apple stated that the new MacBooks will both be made available in March.

In recent weeks, the company had difficulty keeping Macs in stock due to production being significantly affected by Covid lockdowns at Shanghai, China.
