REUTERS/Carlos BarriaWASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc named a vice president to the role of chief information security officer (CISO) at its social media platform. This is the first such person.
Guy Rosen, who has been at Facebook since 2013 and most recently led the company’s product safety and integrity efforts, said on Twitter (NYSE:) in his new role he “will continue to oversee and look across the breadth of safety & security risks the people who use our services, our company and industry face.”
This was the first CISO Facebook ever had. Facebook, which was later renamed Meta Platforms (October 2021), still retained the “Facebook” name for its social media apps.
Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg stated in a memo to Reuters that he had requested Rosen to take the job. He said it was “another move to elevate this security effort in our DNA – strengthen our leadership, governance and security issues.”
Rosen, Zuckerberg stated that he will assume overall responsibility for safety and security regarding on-platform abuse and the security of company products, infrastructure, information and company data – with a focus on both internal as external risks.
Alex Stamos was Facebook’s chief security officer before he left the company in 2018.
