Russia’s U.N. envoy storms out of Ukraine meeting over European statement -Breaking

UNITED NATIONS – Russia’s U.N. On Monday, Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia stormed off a U.N. Security Council meeting. The European Council President Charles Michel spoke to the group of 15 members and charged Moscow with creating a food crisis by invading Ukraine.

Michel accused Russian troops also of war crimes, crimes against humanity and sexual violence. He specifically mentioned reports about the topic of the Security Council meeting and described it as “a tactic for torture, terror and suppression.”

Nebenzia stated that he had “categorically denied” the allegations of Russian soldiers committing sexual violence during his statement. He also condemned the “lie.”

Nebenzia, visibly upset as he left the Security Council Chamber during Michel’s speech, told Reuters that he couldn’t remain because of the “lies Charles Michel was here to spread.”

Michel spoke directly to Nebenzia, as he left the room.

Russia’s February 24 invasion of Ukraine has caused a worldwide food crisis, with grain prices, oil and fuel rising. Nearly a third global wheat supply is held by Russia and Ukraine. However, Russia is also an exporter for fertilizer while Ukraine exports corn oil and sunflower oil.

Antonio Guterres (UN Secretary-General) is trying to broker a deal to bring back Ukrainian food exports. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit Turkey Wednesday to talk about unlocking Ukrainian grain exports.
