Apple’s (NASDAQ:) week-long Worldwide Developers Conference started on Monday with the biggest announcements being the new iOS 16 for the iPhone as well as the latest software updates for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.

The company announced two new laptops, which are powered by M2 chips.

Before the general release to the public in the fall, developers will first have access. Public users can install the beta version of the software in July.

One of the most significant changes to iPhone is the addition of custom lock screens that can be customized with widgets such as weather and activity.

Apple has also introduced its Buy Now Pay Later service (BNPL).

Jim Suva from Citi was especially interested in CarPlay enhancements.

“We expect these enhancements to further Apple’s ambitions in the auto industry,” the analyst said in a client note.

Rod Hall, a Goldman Sachs analyst said that the MacBook Air’s M2 redesign was their most significant announcement in terms of short-term earnings. An analyst discussed CarPlay upgrades.

“We believe this could eventually lead to Apple providing services leveraging car sensor platforms. The enhancements also look like they will significantly improve the CarPlay user experience which we already see as positive.”

David Vogt, UBS analyst, said that he was surprised by the AR/VR exclusion.

“While an AR/VR hardware product was not expected, the market expected Apple to introduce a new software development environment ahead of a hardware launch later this year/early 2023. Despite the modest disappointment, on the margin,” Vogt told clients.
