TOKYO (Reuters), Bank of Japan Governor Haruhikokuroda Tuesday defended the statement he made a day prior that prices were rising more easily in households. This was to explain why wage increases are necessary.

We don’t want to just raise prices. He stated that he wanted to build a positive economic cycle in which prices increase along with higher wage growth and more economic activity.

Kuroda was the subject of a lot of social media criticism for Monday’s remarks.
