U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have increased their guidance on monkeypox, urging travellers to wear face masks as the number of cases worldwide exceeds 1,000.

The CDC increased its alert to a level 2On Monday, the government urged people to take “enhanced precautions” in order to stop the spread of the disease, which reached 29 countries that are not endemic. The highest level alert — level 3 — would caution against non-essential travel.

The public health agency said that the threat to the general population remains low. “In the meantime, interactions between people and animals have increased. The climate change has made some animals more likely to come into contact with people, and you’ll see more cases of this type of disease,” he said.
