LONDON (Reuters – Russia’s lower house approved Tuesday a bill to remove legal liability for parallel imported goods.

This bill protects Russian companies against liability when they import certain goods that have been approved by the Trade Ministry.

Russia approved parallel import in March. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that the move allows suppliers of foreign goods to resell the products in Russia, without the consent of trademark owners.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade approved in May a list of goods that can be imported without the approval of foreign copyright owners. This list covers 56 sectors including electronics, cars, clothes and footwear as well as cosmetics and equipment.

Russia has made it difficult to import foreign products into Russia after sending troops to Ukraine in a “military-special operation”, which Russia calls “demilitarization and denazification”.

Many foreign corporations announced that they would cease operations in Russia after the West responded with severe sanctions.
