On Wednesday, a car crashed into a group of Berliners, killing one and smashing through the shop windows. This happened in Berlin’s tourist district.

According to a spokesperson from the police, more than twelve people sustained injuries. According to a spokesperson of the fire service, some injuries are serious.

A man was allegedly involved in a crash with a group. The police say it’s not clear if this was an accident or intentional act.

The police stated that they were currently at the scene along with approximately 130 emergency workers. “The small vehicle that was involved in the incident, was securely secured at the scene.”

A spokesperson for the police said that investigators are investigating whether this was an intentional attack or an accident due to a medical reason.

Reuters photos showed that blankets were used to cover what looked like a dead body, which was kept in a secure area. After smashing through the plate glass windows, a small silver-coloured Renault car got stuck in a shop.

This incident occurred near Berlin’s war-ravaged Gedaechtniskirche Church, which is one of Berlin’s most well-known landmarks.

According to Reuters, rescue workers helped two women who were apparently unconscious move on stretchers toward an ambulance. One woman sat up and the other covered her face with her hands.

This site was located on a busy shopping street close to a McDonald’s. It was closed off. A helicopter hovering above was seen by many passersby.

This incident occurred near the site of an attack that killed Anis Amri on December 19, 2016. Anis Amri was a Tunisian refugee with Islamist connections. He hijacked the truck and shot the driver. Then he drove it into the Christmas market in western Berlin, where he also killed 11 others and injured dozens more.

Amri then ran to Italy and was killed by police.
