BERLIN (Reuters). A car crashed into a group of Berliners on Wednesday. The vehicle veered onto a sidewalk twice, killing one, according to police. This happened in a popular tourist and shopping area of Berlin.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle was a German-Armenian man aged 29 who drove the car through a shop window.

Germany’s Bild newspaper reported that the victim was a teacher, who was on the streets with her students.

According to a spokesperson for the police in Berlin, more than twelve people were hurt. This was near the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church (wounded by war), which is among Berlin’s most famous landmarks.

According to a spokesperson from the fire department, five injured people were considered life-threatening.

According to police, a man drove into a crowd of people. Police said it is still not clear if the accident was accidental or deliberate.

Police said that 130 emergency personnel were on-scene at the moment. The vehicle was a small one and it was taken to the police station.

According to a spokesperson for the police, investigators are investigating whether this was an attack on purpose or if it was an accident with medical causes.

An Interior Ministry spokesperson stated that “it is too early for speculation about the background (of this incident)” at Berlin’s regular federal government news conference.

Bild published a photo of the driver in detention wearing a yellow pullover and jogging pants, as well as red trainers.

Reuters photos showed that blankets were used to cover what looked like a dead body, in a protected area. Small, silver-coloured object. Renault (EPA:) After breaking through a glass plate, a car was forced into a shop.

Rescue workers carried two apparently conscious individuals on stretchers to an ambulance. The woman who was sitting upright and the one with her hand covering her face were both taken by rescuers.

John Barrowman was an actor present at the scene and told Sky News UK that he saw a woman being taken into an ambulance. It looked as if they were trying to revive someone.

It took place close to the scene of the fatal attack of Dec. 19, 2016. Anis amri, an unsuccessful Tunisian asylum seeker, stole a truck from the driver, and drove the vehicle into a busy Christmas market in Berlin. This killed eleven people, and left many others injured.

Amri fled to Italy and was then shot dead by Italian police.

Police spokespersons stated that they had learnt from Wednesday’s 2016 incident.
