According to a British newspaper, Patrick Reed and Bryson de Chambeau are set to join the Saudi-funded LIV Golf Invitational Series in time to allow the opposing circuit to begin playing in U.S. towns.

The Daily Telegraph says Greg Norman and his staff that runs LIV Golf Investments plan to announce the latest two defections from the PGA Tour on Friday.

DeChambeau, who was recruited to the Saudi League in January, was also among them. This changed after Mickelson made unwanted media attention to the league’s infancy with interviews that denigrated the PGA Tour as well as the Saudis funding LIV Golf Investments.

Johnson, DeChambeau and DeChambeau were the most prominent names to support the PGA Tour’s February campaign.

DeChambeau stated in a February statement that “despite there being a lot speculation around my support for another Tour, I want it to be very clear that as long the best players of the world are playing on the PGA Tour,” DeChambeau added.

DeChambeau, when asked last week about his interest at Memorial, stated that he doesn’t feel that he is in a position in which ‘I can’t risk it like that at this stage in my professional career.”

“I am loyal to the family I have created with sponsors and all. As of now, there is a possibility that the world of golf will change. It’s not clear what this means. Not my job to do so. It’s my job to play professional golf. I will continue enjoying it, wherever that takes me.

He stated Wednesday that his agent had said in a statement, “Bryson was always an innovator.”

He says that the chance to be part of something new and unique was always an intriguing opportunity. Brett Falkoff, GSE Worldwide said that professional golf is evolving rapidly and we are all aware of it.

DeChambeau won in 2020 the U.S. Open. He was a golfer who challenged the norm with his unconventional thinking about how more speed and greater power can improve the game. His ball speed from the driver was 200 mph, adding 40 pounds to his muscle and mass. He competed in long driving exhibitions.

Reed won the 2018 Masters as his only major. He is well-known for his short game and grit, but he also was known to be a source of ridicule in U.S. galleries because he moved sand from his ball in 2019 in the Bahamas. This clearly violated the rules.

Norman’s League players are receiving huge signing bonuses. The Telegraph claims Johnson received $150 million, even though he was competing for $25,000,000 funds in each of eight LIV events.

Mickelson was questioned about reports that he was receiving $200 million.

He said, “I think that contract agreements ought to be private.” It doesn’t seem that this is the case. But it should.

LIV Series’ first U.S. tournament is at Pumpkin Ridge, Oregon on the weekend of the Fourth. Some players have resigned from their memberships as a result of the PGA Tour not granting releases to allow them to play outside London.
