TOKYO (Reuters – Japan’s finance minister will launch Monday the first meeting a new panel of experts for national debt management.

It is made up of five outside experts and the head fixed income group of Mitsubishi UFJ (NYSE) Morgan Stanley (NYSE: ) Faculty and securities at leading universities

The ministry released a statement Wednesday saying that it was still awaiting advice and opinions from experts, but would not elaborate.

Japan’s debt to the government is now twice as large than its economy. Years of fiscal stimulus including efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic has strained Japan’s finances. This makes fiscal reform urgent.
