SHANGHAI (Reuters). Nike Inc (NYSE:), world’s biggest sportswear manufacturer, announced Wednesday that it will cease selling its Nike Run Club app in China.

On Wednesday morning, the U.S. brand of sportswear made the announcement through its app to mainland China users and thanked them all for their support.

Although it did not provide any explanations, a spokesperson for the company told Reuters that the company would offer Chinese runners an “enhanced solution” in the future.

The Nike app allows you to keep track of your runs, and challenges friends to race, across multiple countries. The app has over 8 million users in China which is the largest market for Nike.

Thank you for running with us! Nike released a statement.

NRC APP will stop service in your area on July 8, and it is with deep sadness.

Reuters reported that Nike informed Reuters it would continue to invest in China’s Nike Sport Marketplace.

“We are creating an ecosystem from China for China, specifically catered to the region’s unique consumer needs to serve athletes better,” the company spokesperson said.

We will provide a better and more localized digital solution for Chinese runners in the future.”

Other U.S. tech firms, like Linkedin, Yahoo and Google, have discontinued or reduced their services to mainland China users over the past year. This was due to increasing compliance requirements as well as censorship.

China has placed new restrictions on Internet companies, including content. It has also implemented new laws like one regarding personal information protection, which is designed to safeguard users’ data privacy.

The closing of NRC App posts received more than 75,000 views via the Weibo (NASDAQ) social media platform. Many users were saddened by the decision.

A user said, “I have been using this app for seven years. It will cease like this.”

A Weibo user stated, “Every single step I’ve taken was recorded here”, and ended the post by adding three tearful emojis.
