After rising crime rates made it impossible for San Francisco to bear, NBC News Projects fired Tuesday’s headline-grabbing reformist District Attorney.

Chesa BoudinAs voters became frustrated that his office was not prepared to tackle crime, they successfully recalled a left-wing radical son.

The result was rebuke of the left as Democrats retreat from calls to defund the police in the face of polls nationally showing growing concern about public safety, especially from people of color.

Mayor London Breed will appoint a temporary successor to fill the DA’s office — formerly occupied by Vice President Kamala Harris — until an election can be held.

California was one of seven states holding primary elections Tuesday that will set the course for key congressional and other races in November.

And the battle for the House is coming into fuller viewAs Republicans chose nominees in districts that could decide whether Democrats retain their narrow majority in Washington.

IowaRetired Admiral Michael Franken was elected Democratic Senate nominee, NBC News projects. He defeated former Rep. Abby FinkenauerThe favorite was seen to be.

Franken was a candidate for Senate in 2020. He supported Medicare for All and foregrounded his national security experiences while supporting Finkenauer’s left. It will be challenging for Franken to beat a Republican state like Ohio, where he will be facing long-time Republican Senator Chuck Grassley.

Democrats will be focusing on defending their one congressional seat in Texas, which is held by Rep. Cindy Axne who happens to also be one of the five House Democrats. representing a district Trump would have won if the new post-redistricting congressional lines had been in place in 2020.

Axne will take on Iowa State Sen. Zach Nunn (a 43-year-old Air Force combat Veteran who served in Afghanistan/Iraq and was defeated by another well-funded GOP candidate, NBC News projects).

Also being counted are the votes CaliforniaNew JerseyNew MexicoSouth DakotaMississippi, Montana.

South Dakota Republican senator John Thune, who is deputy to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell won re-nomination easily, NBC News reports. earning Trump’s ire for not supporting his effort to overturn the 2020 election and initially wavering on whether he would run for re-election.

Trump was a former president. Kristi Noem was going to challenge Thune but ultimately she decided to run.

Trump called also for the resignation of Republican Rep. Chris Smith (New Jersey). He is the longest-serving congressman, having voted in President Joe Biden’s infrastructure program.

Roger Stone, a Trump-aligned figure, has been against Smith. Trump however never supported an opponent. Smith received a re-nomination from NBC News.

Republicans in New Jersey are also eyeing several other areas. Democratic incumbents seen as vulnerable in the fall.

Democratic Rep. Tom Malinowski will face a re-match against Tom Kean Jr., the former GOP leader in the state Senate, who won his party’s nomination, NBC News projects.

A winner has not yet emerged from the GOP primary to challenge Democratic Rep. Andy Kim.

And a Garden State Democratic dynasty is expected to continue after Robert “Rob” Menendez Jr., the son of Sen. Robert “Bob” Menendez, won his party’s nomination in a deep-blue open seat just over the Hudson River from New York City, NBC News projects.

In New Mexico, NBC News projects former TV weatherman Mark Ronchetti won a hard-fought Republican primary to take on Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, who isConsidered vulnerable during the fall

The biggest races on Tuesday will still be held in California. California can take a while to count the ballots, so final results may not always be available.

Los Angeles: An ex-Republican billionaire appears to have emerged as the frontrunner to become Los Angeles’ next mayor. This has earned broad support from Hollywood left-leaning stars such as Katy PerryThe party’s reliable booster, he has also performed at Democratic National Conventions.

Rick Caruso was a leading real estate developer. He joined the Democratic Party right before declaring his bid for mayor.

Both are unlikely to reach the threshold of 50 percent to prevent a runoff so Caruso or Bass may face each other in November.

California has many important House races.

Young Kim, and David Valadao are the current incumbents of the two tossup congressional districts held currently by Republicans. They face far-right challengers who have a chance to push them off in November’s all-party “jungle primary.”

There will be two candidates who advance to the general elections. Democratic super-PACs made an effort to support the far right challengers, hoping they would grab the second slot on the ballot. This has led to Republican national organizations to react with late cash injections.
