BARCELONA, (Reuters) – Volkswagen (ETR) will introduce three new electric models in Spain by the end of 2025. This includes the first electric car made in Spain.
Volkswagen produced 452,000 all electric cars last year. The company aims to have half its total global production all-electric by 2030. Over the next five year, Volkswagen has allocated 159 billion euro ($170billion) to invest in electrification. This is more than any of its rivals.
CUPRA has close connections to VW’s Spanish brand SEAT. It focuses on sports cars with high margins. CUPRA unveiled new models during an event in Barcelona. These models will bring the total to seven.
Wayne Griffiths (CUPRA chief executive) stated that the goal was to produce 500,000 vehicles per year in the near-term and continue with international expansion into new markets.
CUPRA’s creation in 2018 saw the delivery of approximately 200 cars. In 2021, its turnover was 2.2 billion euro ($2.35billion).
Its first electric sport-utility vehicle will be the Terramar model. You can choose to have it with an internal combustion or plug-in hybrid engine. It is expected to be on the market by 2024. It will be made at Audi Gyor in Hungary.
Tavascan, an electric concept vehicle that will be released in 2024 is expected to launch. The production details of the Tavascan have yet to be announced.
CUPRA’s UrbanRebel electric vehicle will be launched in 2025. SEAT will produce the UrbanRebel electric model at its Martorell Barcelona facility. However, production is contingent on Spain’s approval of Volkswagen’s request to receive public assistance as part of their decision to construct a Spanish battery plant.
Martorell has been assigned the vehicle as the first to produce electric vehicles. Martorell aims to make 500,000 cars per year for all brands of electric cars, even the Volkswagen Group.
