DisneyMultiple sources CNBC Thursday report that Peter Rice has been abruptly fired as its top television content executive.
A person familiar with the situation claims that Rice was unaware of the imminent firing.
Rice’s abrupt departure from the company was not immediately known. According to the New York Times Rice was “an ill fit with Disney’s corporate culture.”Variety also received information from other sources. the abrupt decision was strategy-relatedRice had no personal conduct.
Rice brings more than thirty years of entertainment experience to the table and has risen through the ranks at 21st century Fox. Rice will be joining Disney’s Disney Team Dana Walden when the company was sold to Disney in 2019.
As Disney continues to grow its streaming audience, the firings are not surprising. Rice was responsible for 20th Television and ABC Entertainment as well as ABC News, ABC News, FX and ABC News, among others.
Disney’s board supported CEO Bob Chapek and delivered the news to Rice earlier in the week.
Susan Arnold (chairwoman of Disney’s board), said that the strength of Walt Disney Company businesses after the pandemic “is a testament Bob’s leadership and vision of the company’s futur.” “In this critical time of business growth, transformation and change, we are committed keeping Disney on the success path that it is currently on, and Bob, his leadership team, have the backing and confidence of our board.”
