SHANGHAI (Reuters: Tesla (NASDAQ ) continues with an online China job fair on Thursday. The event was held one week after Elon Musk claimed that Tesla was in danger of losing jobs and that it was overstaffed in some areas.

Tesla intends to host the event online beginning at 7 PM Shanghai time (1100 GMT). The online posting also states that they will be recruiting for positions in smart manufacturing.

Tesla currently has 224 open positions in China for engineers and managers, as per a separate posting on WeChat. The 24 new posts were made on June 9th.

Managers and engineers are needed to manage the operation at Giga Press’s 6,000-ton machine die casting plant. It is the biggest in the world.

Tesla holds regular online hiring events in China. The most recent one was held in May for summer interns.

The Chinese revenue of Tesla more than doubled from last year to 2021, which contributed 25% to the U.S. automaker’s total income.

Model 3 and Model Ys are manufactured in Shanghai. Tesla plans to increase the capacity of this factory.

Shanghai’s COVID-19 lockdown for two months caused severe damage to the plants output. It saw them stop work for 22 consecutive days, and then struggled to get back to full production. Tesla originally planned to increase production to 22,000 vehicles per week at mid-May.

Musk, chief executive of Tesla, stated in an email to Reuters that he felt “super bad” about the economy, and had to reduce 10% of the salaried workforce at the maker.

Musk also sent an email Friday to workers, stating that Tesla will reduce its salaried workforce by 10% due to being “overstaffed” in “many areas”, but adding that the “hourly headcount” would increase.

Musk did not comment on China’s staffing situation.
