In 2021, California saw more than 360,000 leave the state. Some call it “The Great Escape.”The California Exodus” — many leaving for states like Texas, Arizona and Washington.

A rising number of ex-Californians have begun to migrate out of California and instead are heading south. Mexico offers a much more affordable, relaxed lifestyle than many Americans.

California is consistently ranked as the nation’s most expensive state to live in. The median asking price for a home in California is about $797,470 — only 25% of the state’s households could afford that in the fourth quarter of 2021. 

California’s population has been decreasing for 30+ years. Thanks to remote employment, however, the state has seen a rise in its population. Covid-19 pandemicThese trends are now more common. 62% of Americans consider moving to another country because they have the ability to work from anywhere.  

But there are also some setbacks. The cost of housing is rising for many locals. This, according to critics.
