Daniel Roland/Pool via REUTERS/File PhotoBERLIN, (Reuters) – The European Central Bank is not expecting the conflict in Ukraine to lead to stagflation within the Euro zone even if higher oil prices cause inflation to rise. President Christine Lagarde said this on Saturday.
“Incoming data don’t point to a material risk of stagflation,” Lagarde said in an interview with Phileleftheros published by the ECB on its website.
Lagarde indicated that the growth rate in the euro zone could drop to 2.3% under a dire scenario due to war in 2022. In all other scenarios, inflation should decrease to levels close to the bank’s 2 % target for 2024.
