PARIS (Reuters) – France should have no problems with energy supplies according to the head CRE regulator body of France. On Wednesday, he said that France shouldn’t face any difficulties.

Germany issued an earlier warning about a potential gas supply crisis. It was intended to warn of the possibility of disruption or interruption of flow from Russia.

“Everything will be fine, the gas storage facilities are well filled, we’ll make it through the winter,” CRE head Jean-François Carenco told France’s BFM TV.

The most obvious sign that the European Union has prepared for disruptions in supply after sanctioning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is Germany’s announcement.

This comes just as Moscow is planning to create a new payment mechanism for gas that will be paid in roubles. The European Commission said that it would work closely with EU members to help them prepare for any supply problems.

Laurence Poirier Dietz, the chief of France’s top distribution company GRDF, said to Les Echos newspaper, that France is preparing for a Russian-linked disruption in supply next winter.

According to her, she said, “In case of a total suspension or partial suspension Russian Gas Imports, which would not be common, GRDF can take exceptional measures to lower consumption “

GRDF delivers natural gas daily to over 11 million customers for their heating, cooking and mobility needs.

Poirier-Dietz explained that among those customers, large industrial clients and shopping centers would only be asked to lower their demand if necessary. This exemption would not apply to individual customers, military personnel and public service employees.

Europe 1 radio’s Bruno Le Maire, the Finance Minister, said that France had prepared for “all scenarios” including Russia’s halt to gas exports.

He stated, “We need to work together on emergency solutions for the event that this decision is made,” even though it isn’t the main scenario.
