(Reuters) – Indonesia’s plan to ban palm oil exports will deal a blow to the world’s top food and consumer products companies including Unilever (NYSE:), Procter & Gamble (NYSE:) and Nestle.

More than half the world’s edible oil supply is from Indonesia, and it can be found in many products, including cakes, cookies, margarine, frying fats and cosmetics.

It’s also a key ingredient in Ferrero Rocher chocolates as well as Nutella spread. This gives them a more smooth texture and a longer shelf life.

This summary shows how much palm oil is used in the United States, as based on most current data.

UNILEVER

Unilever stated in 2016 that they used approximately 1,000,000 tonnes of crude palm oil, its derivatives, and about 0.5 Million tonnes crude palm kernel oil, and its derivatives.

According to the company, it is the biggest user of certified physically palm oil in the retail goods sector.

Company declined to share more recent data.

NESTLE

KitKat Chocolate Bars’ maker purchased 453,000 tonnes of palm oil from Indonesia and Malaysia in 2020. This is according to the company’s website.

It has 88 suppliers from over 1,600 countries, and uses them all. The company also purchases from Latin America and Africa.

PROCTOR & GAMBLE

According to a company document, the company consumed 605,000 tonnes and more of palm kernel and palm oil in 2020-2021’s fiscal year. It’s used in the company’s fabric, home care and beauty products.

The company purchases about 0.8% global palm oil production. It also sells any palm oil it doesn’t use. It mainly sources its palm oil from Malaysian and Indonesian factories.

MONDELEZ INTERNATIONAL

The Oreo cookie maker said that it purchases “large quantities” of palm oil in a securities filing.

According to their website, 0.5% of global palm oil consumption is from this country.

DANONE:

Danone claimed that 71,000 tonnes palm oil was purchased by it in 2018.

FERRERO:

According to the website, Nutella was made in Italy and sourced 85 percent of its palm oil supply from Malaysia. Only 9% came from Indonesia.

L’OREAL:

L’Oreal reported in 2018 that while it used less than 385 tonnes of palm oils per annum, it purchased palm oil derivatives and kernel oil equivalent to 71,000 tons.
