LONDON (Reuters – Britain will provide 13 armored vehicles to evacuate people trapped in Ukraine’s east, according to the government.

In a statement, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss stated that “this latest donation armoured vehicle will help protect innocent Ukrainians fleeing Russian shelling” and would support Ukrainian officials doing vital work.

Britain stated that the steel-plated vehicles can withstand high velocity bullets, antipersonnel mines, and improvised explosives. They will also be used by officials for transport to temporary command posts, and workers to rebuild railway lines.

According to the statement, they were donated by a foreign fleet of offices in Ukraine as a response to the request of the Ukrainian government. They would begin arriving within days.
