Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

The index increased 0.48% and the index gained 0.22% at the closing of NYSE.

These were the best performers of the session Boeing Co (NYSE:) traded at 153.58 after the close by rising 3.34%, or 4.97 points. Meanwhile, JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:) added 2.14% or 2.58 points to end at 123.03 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE: ) rose 2.03%, or 0.94 points, to 47.17 during late trade.

They were also the worst performers of the session. Nike Inc (NYSE:) fell 2.5%, or 3.22 points, to trade at 122.86 by the close. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:) declined 1.40% or 2.97 points to end at 208.56 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:) was down 1.37% or 2.17 points to 156.21.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ) rose 14.47%, to 61.72 Monolithic power Systems Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 rose 11.34% and settled at 457.48 Catalent Inc (NYSE): The closing close was 99.95.

Rockwell Automation Inc. (NYSE:) was among the worst-performing companies, falling 14.52% and 213.74 during late trade. Expedia Inc (NASDAQ.) fell 14.02% to 150.31, while FMC Corporation was at 153.21.

These were the top performers in the NASDAQ Composite Blue Water Vaccines Inc (NASDAQ) rose 93.11% at 6.45. XORTX Therapeutics Inc was up 57.76% and settled at 1.83 Ostin Technology Group Co Ltd (NASDAQ :), which saw a 57.28% increase to close at 4.75

They were among the most disappointing. Spero Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ.) fell 63.65%-to 1.85 late trade. Blackboxstocks Inc was also down at 3.05 (NASDAQ.) and Galmed Pharmaceuticals Ltd was at 0.91 (NASDAQ.).

The New York Stock Exchange saw rising stocks surpass declining stocks by 2114, 1057, and ended unchanged. On the Nasdaq Stock Exchange however, 2089 rose while 1692 fell, while 252 finished unchanged.

Rockwell Automation Inc (NYSE) shares fell by 14.52%, or 36.30 to 213.00 to reach 52 week lows. Spero Therapeutics Inc. shares (NASDAQ) plunged to new lows, losing 63.65%. Galmed Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (NASDAQ:), shares fell 25.08%, or 0.31 to 0.91 to their lowest level.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 9.55% to 29.25.

For June delivery, Gold Futures rose 0.16% to $1.866.65 an troy ounce. In commodities trading, crude oil fell 2.66 percent or 2.53 to reach $102.51 per barrel in June, and the July Brent oil contract dropped 2.9% or 2.57, to trade at $105.01 per barrel.

EUR/USD stood at 1.05 and remained unchanged at 0.20%, while USD/JPY rose by 0.02% to 130.16.

At 103.48, the US Dollar Index Futures fell 0.28%.
