(Reuters] – Amber Heard may be the former wife of Johnny Depp in front of a Virginia jury that will hear the multimillion dollar defamation lawsuits the actor filed against each of them following their split.
Depp’s legal team resigned Tuesday following arguments that Heard made fun of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actress when she claimed she was an abuse victim.
Heard’s supporters began to respond by calling for a psychologist, who stated that the actress was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of Depp’s sexual and physical abuse.
Depp, 58, is now suing Heard (36), for $50 million. Heard, who claims Depp has slandered her by calling him a liar, counter-sued with $100 million.
Depp testified that Aquaman star Heard was an abuser and that he once toss a vodka glass that cut off his right thumb.
Depp declared, “At my end, it was me that was broken.”
Heard denied that he had injures Depp’s finger. Heard said that she only tried to flee when he beat her.
Heard’s lawyers presented text messages and audio recordings from Depp that contained graphic language and injures Heard during cross-examination.
He said, “Let’s drown her before she burns her,” and added “I will fuck [her burnt corpse] afterward to ensure that she is dead.”
A December 2018 Washington Post opinion article is the key to this case. Although Depp was not mentioned in the article, his lawyer stated that Heard was. After less than two years, the couple filed for divorce in 2017.
Depp once ranked among Hollywood’s most prominent stars. He said that he has never had a relationship with Heard, or any woman. He also claimed Heard’s claims cost him his “everything”. Depp’s new movie “Pirates” was put on hold and he was replaced by the film “Fantastic Beasts”, a spinoff of Harry Potter.
Heard’s legal team argued she was truthful and that her opinion is protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Fairfax County’s state judge is in charge of the trial which will last up to May.
Depp, who was accused of being a wife beater by The Sun in Britain, lost his libel suit less than 2 years ago. Heard had been repeatedly attacked by Depp, a judge at the London High Court ruled.
Depp’s lawyers claim they filed the U.S. suit in Fairfax County because the Washington Post was printed there. Newspaper is not being sued.
