Starbucks criticizes Biden’s visit with union leaders, requests White House meeting

StarbucksThe White House is requesting a meeting following a meeting between President Joe Biden and an organizer, who are helping to unionize its coffee shops.
On Thursday, President Obama met with 39 leaders of national labor, including Christian Smalls (head of the AmazonLabor Union. Laura Garza is a leader in the union at Starbucks’ New York City Roastery. Biden supported unions vocally from his campaign trail until his time at the Oval Office. On Wednesday, six Starbucks outlets voted against unionizing. Over 50 Starbucks café baristas voted for unionization under Workers United in the past six months. As of now, 200 cafés remain waiting to be contacted or their votes are counted.
Jones requested that he meet with Biden at the White House to discuss the administration’s benefits to employees who hold different viewpoints than the union. CNBC requested comment but did not receive a reply from the White House.
Starbucks will be defending its customers from unionization. Workers United filed over 100 complaints about unfair labor practices against Starbucks, alleging harassment and illegal retaliation. Starbucks was sued by at least three of the National Labor Relations Board. These claims were denied by the company, however Workers United has been subject to two additional complaints.
Starbucks opens Tuesday said it would spend $1 billion in fiscal 2022for its employees and stores. These investments include a wage increase for tenured workers, doubled training for new employees and the addition of tipping for credit and debit card users.

[CEO]Howard Schultz’s bullying was used to make it happen,” Starbucks Workers United Organizing Committee claimed in a statement released to CNBC Tuesday. “Many of these benefits were offered at Buffalo’s bargaining tables.”
Schultz had previously publicly expressed an interest in running as an independent candidate for President during the campaign leading up to 2020.
