(Reuters] – Republican U.S. Senate nominee Kathy Barnette is a conservative commentator, who surged into contention in advance of Tuesday’s Pennsylvania primary election. She was photographed marching to the U.S. Capitol Jan. 6, 2021 with Proud Boys members, according news reports.

Trump supporters stormed Capitol and attacked police officers in an attempt to block Congress from recertifying his 2020 loss to Joe Biden.

Chad Loder posted the photos of Barnette that day online. He describes himself as an expert in online extremism and information security. NBC News confirmed them as genuine. Barnette is shown in these photos, wearing a gray hat and a winter coat, as he walks behind Proud Boys members later arrested for their involvement in the Capitol Riot.

NBC News stated that there is no evidence Barnette attempted to enter the Capitol and engaged in violence. Shortly after Trump’s incendiary comments at a rally, where he claimed that election stolen by widespread voter fraud, the attack on Capitol occurred.

Barnette’s campaign didn’t immediately reply to our request for comment. According to a tweet by a NBC reporter, Barnette’s campaign stated: “Kathy was there in D.C. because she wanted to support President Trump” (NYSE :). It is intentional false to claim that Kathy participated in the destruction or assisted with it. There is no relation whatsoever between her and the Proud Boys.

Barnette appears to be gaining ground in opinion polls against better-funded primary competitors, Mehmet Oz, a TV celebrity and Mehmet Oz (NYSE:). Barnette hopes to be the first Black female Republican senator.

Some Republican leaders have been concerned by her rising popularity. They fear she is too radical to win Pennsylvania’s general elections. Barnette spoke out on Fox News Sunday to address Islamophobic comments she had posted many years back.

Late-breaking twists have engulfed the Senate race. Democratic leader Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman has revealed that he has suffered a stroke and had to withdraw from the campaign trail.
