Tuesday’s approval by the Food and Drug Administration for a Pfizer booster dosage for children aged 5-11 years was granted.

The FDA head for vaccines Dr. Peter Marks said that the effectiveness of vaccines decreases with time. Marks stated that vaccine effectiveness declines over time and the FDA believes there are more benefits to a third dose for children aged 5-11 years.

Robert Califf of FDA said that while Covid can be more severe in children, it has been reported to have increased rates in kids being hospitalized and sickened since the introduction of the omicron version in the U.S.
