(Reuters). A stampede broke out in New York early Sunday, as rumors circulated of gunfire shortly after a bout ended.

Boxing fans filed out from the Barclays (LON:) Police said that word spread quickly among the crowd about gunshots at Brooklyn’s Center after Saturday night’s match in which Gervonta Davis won his lightweight title against Rolando Romaro.

Tweets and videos on Twitter (NYSE) showed that scores of people ran back to the stadium in search for cover. Some knocked others down while they were climbing over chairs or crawling down onto the ground.

Reuters was told by police that the incident resulted in a “sound disturbance”, but no shooting or gunshots.

According to a New York City Police spokesperson, “People thought it was gunfire.” “It wasn’t more.” It caused 10 minor injuries.

Although police have not linked gun jitters with recent events, 19 children and 2 teachers were killed at an elementary school in southwest Texas on Tuesday.

Just 10 days earlier, in Buffalo, New York, a gunman shot and killed 10 people, including an armed security officer, in an attack on a Black neighborhood.

Barclays Center representative was unavailable for comment immediately. The official website only featured footage from the match. Davis even delivered a knockout punch from Romero lefthanded.
