LOS ANGELES, (Reuters) – Jurors who are considering opposing lawsuits filed by Johnny Depp or Amber Heard will meet Tuesday in order to discuss whether one actor is defamed or deserves millions of dollars.

Depp (58) sued Heard, his ex-wife, in Virginia, for $50 million. He claimed she defamed him by calling herself “a public figure representative domestic abuse” in a newspaper article.

Heard, 36 years old, sued Depp for $100 million. He claimed Depp made her look bad when he called her allegations a hoax.

After a two-hour deliberation Friday, the seven-member jury adjourned to head for Memorial Day weekend in the United States.

Depp claimed she did not hit Heard nor any women and that she was the one who made their relationship violent.

The legal case revolves around the opinion piece published by Heard December 2018 in the Washington Post. In it, she makes the statement regarding domestic abuse. Although Depp was not mentioned in the article, his lawyer said that it was obvious Heard was speaking about him.

Heard’s legal team argued she told the truth, and her remarks were protected as free speech under U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment.

Depp and Heard first met while they were filming “The Rum Diary”. They got married in February 2015. About two years later, they divorced.

In six weeks of hearings, jurors heard audio recordings and saw pictures of Depp’s bloody finger. He claimed that the tip of his finger was cut off when Heard in 2015 threw a vodka glass at him.

Heard claimed that Depp did not injure her finger. She also said Depp had sexually assaulted Her with a glass of alcohol. She claimed she only struck Depp to protect herself and her sister.

The couple shared their troubles in their relationship via live streaming on social media.

Depp, once one of Hollywood’s most famous stars, claimed that Heard’s accusations cost him everything. Depp was then replaced in “Fantastic Beasts”, a sequel to Harry Potter’s “Pirates”.

Depp lost an infringement case against the Sun in London two years ago. The Sun is a British tabloid and called Depp a “wifebeater”. Heard was repeatedly assaulted by him, according to a London High Court judge.

The U.S. case was filed by Depp’s legal team in Fairfax County Virginia because there is a Washington Post newspaper. Newspaper is not named as a defendant.
