Bored Ape Yacht Club’s Discord compromised, users lose $360,000 worth of NFTsThe popular NFT collector Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), was attacked by a Discord server. This resulted in the theft of approximately 200 ETH, or roughly $360,000, worth of NFTs.
Boris Vagner was the community manager of the project and the hacker was phishing on his Discord account. PeckShield data shows that one BAYC was stolen and two Mutant Apes NFTs (both were taken by the hacker) were also stolen.
Bored Ape creator Yuga Labs made the announcement on Twitter (NYSE:) a few hours after the incident occurred, and the project developers described the attack as a “brief” exploit, while insisting that an in-house investigation is currently underway.
Today’s exploits of Discord were only briefly discovered. The problem was immediately spotted by our team, and we quickly addressed it. It appears that about 200 ETH of NFTs were affected. Although we’re still looking into the issue, email discord@yugalabs.io to let us know if your NFTs were affected.

Gordon Goner (co-founder Yuga Labs) followed up on the announcement by tweeting that he was questioning Discord’s security procedures.
The breach was first reported by NERFherder, a Twitter user. NERFherder reported that the stolen money was 145 ETH (or $260,000). It could be traced to four wallets. NERFherder countered Goner’s criticism of Discord by saying:
Don’t blame Discord for users getting socially engineered, having DMs open and clicking phishing links. Before you blame it, make sure that the tool is used correctly.
BAYC, one of the most popular NFT projects currently in use, is a tempting target for cyberpunks. In April, an infected link to the official Instagram account for the BAYC collection was posted via the channel. This misleadingly led to users having their NFTs stolen. Nearly $2.8 Million in NFTs were stolen by the company as a result of this hack.
A similar bug in OpenSea UX caused many BAYC owners and holders of top NFT projects holders to lose their collectibles at low rates.
