WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Five major automakers, including Ford Motor (NYSE) Co., Volkswagen AG (OTC) and Honda Motor Co., backed Tuesday’s efforts of President Joe Biden to reinstate California’s right to establish its strict tailpipe standards and zero emission vehicle standards.

BMW AG and Volvo Cars joined the court filing to support the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA’s) decision to reinstate the authority that was withdrawn by former President Donald Trump.

Last month 17 states challenged the EPA decision at the U.S. Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia.
