REUTERS/Peter Andrews/File Photo(Reuters) – European budget airline Wizz Air forecasted Wednesday an operating loss in the first quarter and a larger annual loss. This was despite disruptions to the industry caused by staff shortages at airports, supply chain snags and other factors.
London-listed firm said summer demand was strong but it had to use additional resources due to operational difficulties.
Europe’s airports have had to struggle with increased demand over the past week. The worst case scenario was British, where half-term school holidays coincided with the weekend of the platinum jubilee.
The industry is experiencing supply-chain problems across all airports including our network. Shortages of staff in air traffic control, security and other parts of the supply-chain are impacting airlines, our employees and our customers directly,” Chief Executive Officer József Váradi said.
Wizz Air posted a loss in March of 642.5 millions Euros ($686.58 Million) compared to the loss of 576million euros a year ago.
