Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the closing of NYSE the Index fell 1.94% while the index decreased 2.38%. The index also fell 2.75%.

These were the best performers of the session Home Depot Inc (NYSE:) rose 0.78%, or 2.33 points, to close at 299.86. In contrast, UnitedHealth Group Incorporated(NYSE:), fell 0.83% to 489.43 points. 3M Company was also down 0.85% to 144.18 points in late trade.

They were also the session’s worst performers Boeing Co (NYSE): The close was marked by a drop of 4.23% (5.90 points), to trade at 133.73 Walt Disney Company (NYSE.) lost 3.76% (or 4.04 points) to finish at 103.30. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ.) suffered a drop of 3.60% (or 5.32 point) to 142.64.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were NXP Semiconductors NV (NASDAQ) rose 4.4% to 184.22, Pool Corporation(NASDAQ:), which was up 2.3% to settle at 416.39, and Dollar General Corporations (NYSE:), which gained 1.7% to close at 233.71.

They were among the most disappointing. Moderna Inc (NASDAQ) was 9.76% lower at 134.04 late trade. Carnival Corporation (NYSE) lost 9.28% and settled at 11.73 Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:), which fell 9.17% to 13.76 by the end.

Top performers of the NASDAQ Composite are Powerbridge Technologies Co Ltd (NASDAQ 🙂 which rose 199.86% to 1.12 Nextplay Technologies Inc (NASDAQ :), which was up 93.43%, to settle at 0.35 DBV Technologies (NASDAQ:), which gained 79.56% to close on 3.25

They were among the most disappointing. Cerberus Cyber Sentinel Corp (NASDAQ) was down 42.59% – 5.27 in late trading, Integrated Media Technology Ltd. (NASDAQ) lost 27.40% and settled at 2.65. Transphorm Technology Inc. (NASDAQ) was down 25.64% – 4.90 at close.

New York Stock Exchange: Falling stocks outnumbered advanced ones by 2706 to 477) and 71 ended unchanged. On Nasdaq Stock Exchange 2817 fell, 1043 advanced while 170 finished unchanged.

Carnival Corporation (NYSE 🙂 shares plunged to 52 week lows. This was 9.28% less than the 1.20-11.73 mark. Shares in Integrated Media Technology Ltd.(NASDAQ:) dropped to their 3-year lows, down 27.40% (1.00 to 2.65).

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 8.89% to 26.09.

The August delivery of Gold Futures was lower by 0.31%, or 5.80, to $1.850.70 per troy ounce. Other commodities traded included Crude oil, which fell 0.86 percent to $121.25/barrel in July. The August Brent oil contract dropped 0.74 percent to $122.84/barrel.

The EUR/USD declined 0.91%, to 1.06; the USD/JPY climbed 0.15% at 134.43.

US Dollar Index Futures were up 0.7% at 103.32.
