‘Van life’ road trip ends in death of Gabby Petito -Breaking

(Reuters) – The FBI has confirmed that Brian Laundrie was the boyfriend of Gabby Petito, the victim of her murder.

Petito vanished while on cross-country road trips with Laundrie. Her body was found in Bridger-Teton National Forest, Wyoming last month. Her death was ruled a murder by authorities, and she was strangled to death.

Laundrie was missing for over a month, according to police.

The following timeline shows the progression of this case:

JUNE

Petito, Laundrie and Laundrie depart his North Port home, Florida in Laundrie’s white Ford Transit van. To attend the high school graduation of her brother, Petito and Laundrie drive to Petito’s hometown in New York.

JULY

July 2nd: They leave New York and head west for a long road trip. Petito intends to record the journey on YouTube and Instagram.

July 4, 22 and 23: Petito uploads a series photos of their journey through Kansas, Colorado, Utah. They also stop at many national parks. She cheerfully describes their “adventure”, in one caption.

Petito has posted several photographs from Utah between July 26 and 31. Laundrie can be seen kissing Petito in one photo, taken at Mystic hot springs.

AUGUST

August 12th: Petito uploads images from Arches National Park, Utah. He describes a “calm” morning.

The 911 caller also reported seeing Laundrie and Petito fighting at the Moonflower Community Cooperative, Moab. Petito was being hit and kicked by Laundrie, according to the caller.

Moab police officers stopped the van at a road near Arches National Park. Petito can be seen crying as she recounts an argument which escalated into a physical altercation. Police advise the couple that they should spend the night apart.

August 19, 2018: Petito adds 2 more photos to Instagram. The first one shows the white van from up. The location of the white van is unknown.

Aug. 24, Petito sees his last moment, and leaves Salt Lake City Hotel.

August 25, 2015: Petito uploads her last images to Instagram. The location of the final images is unknown. Nicole Schmidt Schmidt, Nicole Schmidt’s mother, speaks with her last. Petito informs her mother about their plans to visit Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.

August 27, 2018: A group of travel bloggers was driving through Bridger-Teton National Forest, Wyoming when they captured on video the white van that had been parked near Spread Creek Dispersed Campground.

SEPTEMBER

September 1, Laundrie travels alone in the white van to North Port Florida.

Sept. 11, Petito’s family informs police that Petito is missing in Suffolk County. A search begins.

Sept 14, 2008: Laundrie’s family releases a statement that Brian has retained an lawyer and will not speak to law enforcement.

Sept. 15, 2007: Laundrie was named as a person of concern by the police.

September 17th: Laundrie is reported missing by his parents. They say they haven’t seen Laundrie in 3 days since he went hiking in the Carlton Reserve wilderness. Laundrie is being sought by police in the swampy reserve.

Sept. 19, 2018: A body was found in Bridger-Teton National Forest (Wyoming), less than 1,000 feet (305 m) away from where Travel Bloggers spotted it at Spread Creek Dispersed Campground.

September 21st: A postmortem examination is performed on the remains. FBI agents verify that the remains belonged to Petito. They also confirm her death as a homicide. Laundrie remains under investigation.

OCTOBER

Oct. 12: Dr. Blue, Teton County Coroner, says that Petito was strangled to death about 3-4 weeks before her body was discovered on September 19.

October 21st: Laundrie was identified by dental records that were made on remains of human beings found in Florida’s wilderness parks.
