LONDON, (Reuters) – British retail sales fell 0.2% in September according to official data. This is in addition to the signs of weakness during recovery. It also contradicts economists’ predictions in a Reuters poll that a 0.5% monthly increase would be achieved.
The Office for National Statistics reported that retail sales volume in September was 1.3% less than one year ago. This is lower than what the poll predicted for a 0.4% drop, but still 4.2% more than they were in February 2020 before Britain entered lockdown.
