Facebook hit by a barrage of reports from consortium of news outlets

FacebookOn Friday, multiple reports were made about documents Frances Haugen gave to media outlets. She was a whistleblower who used former employees as a source of information.

These reports refer to internal research by the company and documents that prove the company knows about many of the problems its apps and services can cause, but doesn’t fix them or is unable to do so.

According to a report from NBCFacebook did an experiment where a profile of a North Carolina-based conservative mother was created and within two days received recommendations for joining conspiracy groups related the the far-right group QAnon.

According to NBC reports, Facebook hosted thousands of private QAnon pages by 2020. Since then, Facebook has been growing rapidly. banned QAnon groups

Bloomberg reportedAccording to documents, Facebook employees expressed outrage and shock at the January 6th insurrection at U.S. Capitol.

According to Bloomberg, one worker wrote that “I am struggling to match the value of my employment here.” “I arrived here to effect change and improve society. All I have seen so far is atrophy and abdication.

The New York TimesAccording to documents by Haugen it was revealed that on Friday, a Facebook data analyst wrote to his peers to inform them that 10% U.S. views for political content had been of posts suggesting that the 2020 U.S. Presidential election was fraud.

These reports are based on a collection of Wall Street Journal stories titled “The Facebook Files,”From documents supplied by Haugen. The series discovered internal documents that indicated Facebook knew of the damage it was doing to teens’ mental health through its Instagram account.

This was done earlier in the month Haugen testifiedA Senate panel was asked about the reports. Facebook sought to discredit Haugen and continued to press against the stories stemming form the documents that she released.

Facebook said in a statement sent to CNBC that “At heart of these stories lies a false premise.” We are a business, and profit is our goal. But the idea we take advantage of the safety and well-being of others to make a profit doesn’t reflect the reality. Truth is, we have $13 Billion in capital and more than 40,000 employees to fulfill one purpose: keeping people safe on Facebook.
