Spain vows to speed up aid to volcano-hit La Palma -Breaking

LA PALMA (Reuters – Spain’s prime minister Pedro Sanchez announced that Spain would accelerate aid to La Palma’s hard-hit fishing and agriculture industries. This island is where a part of the volcano cone collapsed Saturday, and hot lava continues to flow for over a month since the eruption started.
Nearly 900 hectares have been covered by lava, which has destroyed more than 2,000 homes and damaged many banana plantations. Since Sept. 19, the eruption has forced more than 7 000 people from their homes.
Sanchez announced that during the fifth of his five visits to the island, Sanchez would propose a budgetary change to expedite the arrival economic resources.
Sanchez in early October declared 206 million Euro ($239million) of government funding to the island for rebuilding infrastructure and boosting employment. [L1N2QZ06F]
According to the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute, a portion of the main cone collapsed Saturday morning. The volcano was seen in dark clouds of ash, which it tweeted.
Reuters footage captured lava engulfing buildings, and a dog that appeared to have made a narrow escape from the flow.
Banana crops on some islands were affected by the eruption, making up around half of their economic output. [L8N2QQ2J0]
