U.S. asks transit agencies to conduct inspections after Washington subway derailment -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Friday announced that it has asked U.S. agencies to inspect the rail car wheels following an Oct. 12 train derailment in Washington.

FTA reported that the agency had asked state safety authorities to notify all out-of–tolerance gauges. They also recommended they conduct fleet-wide inspections to ensure proper use of gauges in public transport systems. Washington’s subway system announced Thursday that it expects to reduce service until Nov. 15.
