Iran thwarts pirate attack on oil tanker in Gulf of Aden

© Reuters DUBAI (Reuters – An Iranian pirate attack on an Iranian oil tanker was stopped by the Iranian navy Monday in the Gulf of Aden, Iranian state TV reported.
State TV reports that four boats with armed men approached the tanker before it crossed the Bab al-Mandeb straight. They were stopped by warning shots from the Iranian escort.
Iran’s navy has extended its reach in recent years, sending vessels to the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden to protect Iranian ships from Somali pirates.
