Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

The index fell 0.09% at the close of NYSE. However, it gained 0.42% and the index increased 0.81%.

The best performers of the session on the were Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:), which rose 2.12% or 1.88 points to trade at 90.56 at the close. In the meantime Nike Inc (NYSE 🙂 gained 1.77%, or 3.05 points, to close at 175.55. Salesforce.com Inc was up 1.75% (or 5.29 points) to 308.18 late trade.

Dow Inc (NYSE 🙂 fell by 3.17%, or 1.87 points, to trade at 58.1 at the closing. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE 🙂 fell 2.37%, or 9.90 points, to finish at 408.00. The Travelers Companies Inc was down 2.34% (or 3.76 points) to 156.50.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:) which rose 12.80% to 156.21, Lumen Technologies Inc (NYSE:) which was up 12.64% to settle at 13.72 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:) which gained 12.00% to close at 297.90.

These were the worst performers DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:), which fell 13.95% to 38.08 in late trading Qorvo Inc (NASDAQ:) The stock lost 13.28% and settled at 154.47 NRG Energy Inc (NYSE:) The close was 11.10% lower at 35.56

Evaxion Biotech AS was the top-performing company on the NASDAQ Composite, rising 96.15% to 12.750. TDH Holdings Inc (NASDAQ) was up 82.28% and settled at 4.320. Cassava Sciences Inc, (NASDAQ) gained 48.96% and closed at 84.40.

These were the worst performers Vimeo Inc (NASDAQ) was trading at a 30.07%-to-24.49 loss in late trade. Rimini Street Inc (NASDAQ) lost 29.60% and settled at 7.955; Qurate Retail Inc Series A was at 8.21 (NASDAQ) which fell 27.47% at the end.

The New York Stock Exchange saw falling stocks surpass advancing by 1863 compared to 1350. 138 finished unchanged, while the Nasdaq Stock Exchange witnessed 2118 fall and 1531 advance, with 164 ending unchanged.

NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ) shares rose to record highs. They were up 12.00%, or 31.92 to 299.90. Shares in Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) rose to all time highs; up 2.12% or 1.88 to 90.56. Nike Inc (NYSE 🙂 shares rose to record highs with a rise of 1.77%, or 3.05 to 175.55. Salesforce.com Inc shares (NYSE:), rose to all-time highs by 1.75%, or 5.29 to 3008.18. Evaxion Biotech AS NASDAQ: shares rose to record highs. They gained 96.15%, or 6.250 to12.750. Vimeo Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 shares plunged to new lows, losing 30.07% (10.53 to 24.49).

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.25% to 15.44.

The December delivery of Gold Futures was at $1793.20 per troy ounce, an increase of 1.66%. Other commodities traded included Crude oil, which fell 2.03% (or 1.64) to $79.22/barrel, and January Brent oil, which fell 1.51% (1.24), to trade for $80.75/barrel.

EUR/USD fell 0.46 to 1.1557 while USD/JPY dropped 0.19% at 113.76.
