Iran says it warned off U.S. drones near its Gulf drills -Breaking

DUBAI, (Reuters) – The Iranian military has warned U.S.-based drones not to approach Iranian wargames near the Gulf mouth. State broadcaster IRIB reported Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the annual exercises ended. This was a few weeks prior to the resumption talks between Tehran and other world powers in order to revive a 2015 nuke deal.
IRIB reports that the aircraft, which were RQ-4 and MQ-9 U.S.-flying drones, changed their routes after they approached the Islamic Republic of Iran’s borders following an air defense intercept and decisive warning.
These exercises were conducted from the Strait of Hormuz east to the Indian Ocean north and portions of the Red Sea. The strategic Strait of Hormuz waterway is located in the Gulf. It accounts for approximately a fifth of all oil consumed worldwide.
Periodic confrontations have taken place between Iran’s military and U.S. forces in the Gulf since 2018, when former U.S. President Donald Trump exited the nuclear pact and reimposed harsh sanctions against Tehran.
Iran has responded by breaking the limitations on its nuclear programme under the terms of the Deal.
On Nov. 29, direct talks between Iran (and U.S. President Joe Biden) to revive the agreement, that were suspended after the election of Iran’s hardline President Ebrahim Rasi, will resume in Vienna.
