REUTERS/Lucy Nicholson/File Photograph(Reuters). – Motional AD is a driverless tech-maker and U.S. ridesharing firm Lyft Inc (NASDAQ: ) plans to launch a totally driverless ride-hailing company in Las Vegas from 2023 on Tuesday, according to the companies.
Motional (a joint venture by Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co., and auto supplier Aptiv(NYSE:)), will supply driverless vehicles. They will use a Hyundai platform. Lyft will use the vehicles to transport passengers.
Last year, the companies announced that they will launch a U.S. multi-city robotaxi service by 2023.
Although the Lyft/Motional partnership does not include exclusive rights, they have been working closely together since 2003 on a Las Vegas pilot project.
According to companies, it would be available for riders feedback in the second quarter of 2022, and commercially launched in 2023.
Motional announced earlier in September that it would be expanding its presence in Las Vegas with a tripling of the testing center, double its operations center, and over 100 additional employees.
