BERLIN (Reuters), Volkswagen (DE) CEO Herbert Diess stated Wednesday that he is confident he will remain at his current position through next year after speculations about him being pushed aside due to turmoil surrounding potential company cuts.

When asked by Handelsblatt online whether he thought he’d keep his job, the CEO replied “Yes.”

The relationship between Diess and the workers council was strained over disagreements about how radical the reform at Europe’s largest carmaker should be to ensure electric vehicle dominance.

According to Diess, the CEO would meet Daniela Cavallo (head of workers council), who had harshly criticized his leadership last week. They were scheduled to talk strategy later Wednesday.
