Apple-supplier Infineon is still ‘far away’ from meeting chip demand

German chipmaker AppleSupply InfineonReinhard Ploss, the CEO of Reinhard, said that company is struggling to satisfy demand for its semiconductors.
Ploss said that the supply of automotive parts, as well as other verticals is very limited at present on CNBC’s Wednesday show “SquawkBox Europa”.
He said that “We are not far from meeting the demand”, adding that there is a growing backlog. “The problem is growing, and it’s getting worse over time.”
Infineon is listed by Apple as a supplier 2021 supplier listIt does not list the products that it purchases from Infineon. Infineon offers a broad range of semiconductor technology, which includes microcontrollers as well LED drivers and sensors.
Infineon may not be supplying all of the parts that Apple needs. Infineon did not comment, while Apple did no immediate response to CNBC’s request.
After Infineon announced it had almost doubled its profits to 464m euros ($535m) during the third quarter, shares of Infineon rose more than 2% on Wednesday.
Ploss was asked whether the Munich-based firm is raising prices because of relative scarcity. He replied that they do not profit from the current market situation as we have a long-term relationship with our customers.
He admitted, however that Infineon products do not always “follow the market.”
Infineon, a company that produces semiconductors, opened in Villach (Austria) a brand new, 1.6 billion-euro factory to supply its customers in September. According to Infineon, the chips will be used primarily for the automotive and data center industries as well as renewable energy generation such solar and wind power.
