New York ends lawsuit against anti-abortion protesters -Breaking

NEW YORK, (Reuters) – New York’s attorney General has dismissed her suit to prevent anti-abortion activists from preventing women from entering a New York City borough called Queens.

According to court documents filed Tuesday, Attorney General Letitia J. agreed not to demand damages or civil fines from the 13 defendant protesters. In exchange, they also promised not to pursue counterclaims.

Eric Schneiderman (James’ predecessor) brought the case over harassment alleged near Choices Women’s Medical Center in June 2017.

New York claimed that the protesters were interfering on behalf of the right to abortion and the patients. New York said they clogged the clinic with women, made threats and killed their escorts and displayed posters allegedly depicting aborted foetuses.

Carol Bagley Amon (U.S. District Court) in Brooklyn declined to injunct the protesters in July 2018.

A divided federal appeals court in Manhattan set aside that ruling in March 2021, but reversed itself https://www.reuters.com/world/us/anti-abortion-protesters-new-york-win-court-ruling-2021-05-28 in May without providing a reason, thereby restoring the ruling.

Mat Staver (founder of Liberty Counsel), who represented one protester, called Wednesday’s dismissal “great victory” and made a statement.

Scott Fitchett said that Scott Fitchett did nothing wrong in exercising his First Amendment right of preaching the gospel on a sidewalk.

James’ office has not yet responded to our request for comment.
