JERUSALEM – On Saturday, a Palestinian stabbed an Israeli man outside Jerusalem’s Old City walls. The attacker was later shot and killed by police at the scene. Sources from Israel and Palestine said that this happened.

Israeli police released a video that shows a man walking across a street, then turning around to stabbing an ultra-Orthodox Jewish male who was just a few feet behind him. As he runs towards an Israeli border officer, the assailant is then shot multiple times and falls to his death.

Another viral video appears to show an officer firing at the suspect twice while he was still lying on the floor. Reuters couldn’t independently confirm the footage, and a spokesperson from the police didn’t immediately comment.

According to an Israeli spokesperson, the victim was mildly injured by his attacker.

Palestinian officials have condemned the murder of the accused assailant. Dimitri Deliani, a lawmaker from the Palestinian parliament, described it as “the execution in cold blood of a young Palestinian man.”

‮I‬srael’s border police chief said he fully backed the officers whose response “resulted in the neutralization of the terrorist and prevented him from further harming fighters and civilians at the scene.”

Many stabbing attacks by Palestinians against Israelis have been occurring sporadically in 2015 after the collapse of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.
