No one above the law, Myanmar junta minister says of Suu Kyi verdict -Breaking

Corrects: Dropped word “regulations” added in third paragraph

(Reuters) – A top Myanmar junta official stated Tuesday that Aung San Suu Kyi’s imprisonment showed “no one is above the law” and that her sentence had been commuted by the Army Chief on the basis of “grounds for humanity”.

Maung Maung Okn, the information minister of Myanmar, said that Myanmar’s judicial system is fair and that Monday’s sentencing for former leader and Nobel laureate were in line with law.

Suu Kyi was sentenced at age 76 to four years for her incitement and violation of coronavirus rules. But the military leaders reduced that to just two years.

The story was corrected by adding the dropped “regulations” word in 3rd paragraph.
