SPATIAL, A VIRTUAL REALITY APP TRANSITIONS INTO AN NFT PLATFORM

Spatial made the announcement on 14 December 2021 that it would shift its focus to digital arts and virtual reality. Spatial announced that it would launch a new gallery to showcase digitized art in the form non-fungible tokens.

Spatial – being of the earliest pioneers of the virtual reality workroom experience platforms – has shown interest in decentralized experience focused more on work and less on virtual reality. A 25 million dollar funding round was made to support their transition.

The original spatial app was famous for its virtual workplace tools. With the original spatial app, workers could collaborate, communicate, meet, and complete tasks under virtual conditions. However, according to the company’s announcement, more people have shown interest in social experiences compared to virtual work experiences.

Spatial has had to adapt its values, priorities and partners list in response to user preference shifts. They have reduced their number of app features and partners since last year to encourage a more social user experience.

According to the company, convenience is what they are focusing on as it’s an important aspect of any workplace. The company plans to collaborate with artists who want to make their tokens non-fungible. Their latest update has connected the metamusk cryptocurrency wallets. It also includes a function that creates an inventory of individual user-owned artworks.

Artists will be able to use the app to trade their tokens. New artists will be able to mine their artwork and later sell it as an unfungible token. Spatial application allows artists to import 3D spaces, and then mint them. The backend block of the app is currently inactive. The app is expected to support additional low-carbon platforms in the future.
